Biography

A self-titled “all American immigrant,” Joe Wong has come a long way from a rosy-eyed new immigrant to blossoming comedian.

Born in Baishan, China, Joe enjoyed watching traditional Chinese standup and comedy sketches. Fascinated by the vibrant American culture, he tried to learn about it through rock music coming through static-ridden Chinese radio stations, and limited access to books and movies.

Joe finally made the leap to the United States in 1994, ending up at Rice University in Texas. Moving to Boston in late 2001 to take advantage of the well-established comedy scene, Joe enrolled in standup, acting and improvisational comedy classes, quickly becoming a Boston favorite among comedians and audiences alike.

On April 17th, 2009, Wong made his debut on “Late Show with David Letterman.” Very impressed by his performance, Letterman offered Joe a sitcom development deal with his production company, Worldwide Pants.

Joe has recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Ellen’s Bigger Longer and Wider special taped in Chicago. He also made another appearance on Letterman’s show in February.

He lives in Massachusetts with his wife Lucy Jin and their son, Jake.
