Biography

What 37-year old comedian stars in the new Fox Series, SIT DOWN SHUT UP!? What comic earned “Best of the Web” from Salon.com and the Harvard Crimson for her web series, “The Maria Bamford Show”? Who is the entertainer who stars in Comedy Central series, "The Comedians of Comedy Tour" (as well as in the independent film of the same title out on NETFLIX), is in Variety's TOP TEN COMICS TO WATCH, has been the talk of Montreal, Edinburgh, Aspen, Kilkenny and Melbourne Comedy Festivals and was voted by Comedy Central viewers as one of their Top Ten Favorite Comics?

Who is this? It’s ME! MARIA BAMFORD! That's who! And here’s more about me in the 3rd person!

Maria started her performing arts career in Duluth, Minnesota at the age of 11 where she starred in the Chester Park Elementary production of "How the West Was REALLY Won!" (Conservative message that didn't include the perspective of indigenous nations). A short 24 years of self-discovery and secretarial work later, look at her now! It’s like it was some sort of predestined journey!

And, she is currently working on a book about depression and mental illness with funny experiences of her own and other comedians that will be published in 2009 by Quack! Media!

She also performs comedic voiceovers! She is a series regular on the animated Nickelodeon series CatDog and has been a guest star on Oxygen series Hey Monie!, the Cartoon Network's Home Movies and played a spider in Charlotte's Web II (a straight-to-video deal). Recently added, is a recurring role the EMMY-AWARD-WINNING animated series, “WordGirl” on PBS teaching kids vocabulary WHILE WATCHING TELEVISION instead of reading! AND Maria was the hilarious Mrs. Beady in the animated feature, BARNYARD, directed by Steve Odekerk!.

As far as comedic writing, Maria is no slouch. Her font has been featured in The Onion, The Melbourne Age, The Los Angeles Weekly and in a series of bi-yearly or so newsletters you can read archived on her site, www.mariabamford.com.

You may purchase her CD “The Burning Bridges Tour” and “How to Win” at www.amazon.com and her new CD, “Meena and the Woof-Woofs” will be released by Comedy Central in the winter of 2008!

On a personal level, she’s in a loving committed relationship with a 10 year old pug named Blossom and blind pug named Bert. In her free time, she likes to cut out pictures from magazines that “resonate” with her, paste them on poster board and look into the future.

That’s about it.
