They say you can’t live in fear, but Erik Charles Nielsen’s comedy is drawn from a life of panic. He can’t cope with much of anything, whether it’s an absurd notion in his brain or a task most people take for granted, but he can describe his many struggles with smart, energetic jokes.
Born on Long Island, the former child prodigy began performing stand-up while attending Boston University, and put a Ph.D. program in Renaissance literature on hold to tell jokes. This proved a wise decision: he’s played fan favorite character on almost 50 episodes of NBC’s Community, and also has appearances on Maron and The Middle to his credit. He’s been seen opposite Ken Marino and Patrick Warburton in the independent film Bad Milo, and starred opposite Mindy Kaling in the webseries The Erik the Librarian Mysteries. As a stand-up, he’s performed on Conan, and at the Just For Laughs and Moontower comedy festivals.
